Current and ex Haryana CMs fight over honoring Manushi Chhillar
The issue of honoring recently announced Miss World Manushi Chhillar has triggered a war of words between incumbent Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and ex-CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Hooda has hit out at Khattar, saying that the CM did not understand the importance of a daughter as "he had no family". Khattar retaliated by asking Hooda to not indulge in "cheap politics".
How the Haryana government hopes to honor Manushi Chhillar
Manohar Lal Khattar, on Friday, announced that the Haryana government would "suitably" honor Manushi Chhillar after consultation with her, and would also utilize her influence and services for promoting social causes in the state.
How the dispute originated
The dispute between the former and the incumbent Haryana chief ministers began immediately after Chhillar's crowning. Former CM Hooda urged that Chhillar be rewarded with Rs. 6 crore worth of cash and a residential plot. Khattar retorted by saying that Hooda's thinking was confined to "plots and cash only" and advised him to think beyond those terms.
Khattar's comments on Hooda's personal attack
Khattar also said that Hooda's personal comment had not affected him in any way, but reflected the mindset of the former CM. He further said that unlike Hooda's government, the present government had done its bit to address Haryana's skewed sex ratio. It had, Khattar said, saved the lives of thousands of girls who used to die of female foeticide in Haryana.
