50,000 new cancer cases reported every year in Kerala: WHO
A study conducted by WHO revealed that about 50,000 new cancer cases are reported in Kerala every year. Kerala Health Minister KK Shylaja said that breast, thyroid, and cervical cancer was found to be more among women, while oral and lung cancer in men. In view of this, the government has implemented a comprehensive program for early detection and treatment of cancer, she said.
Kerala Cancer Care Grid is in the pipeline: Minister
The Health Minister said that a Kerala Cancer Care Grid is also being set up. It will work as a network of all cancer care facilities in public and private hospitals. It was envisaged to provide seamless cancer care, right from prevention to rehabilitation. Work on preparing a population registry of cancer patients across the state was progressing, Shylaja said.
