Activist, who led Kathua-rape protest, booked for domestic violence
Social activist and lawyer Talib Hussain, who led the stir in demand for justice for Kathua rape victim, has been booked for allegedly assaulting his wife and attempting to kill her for dowry. Talib's, 30-year-old wife Nusrat Begum has filed a complaint. Chief Judicial Magistrate Shabnam Sheikh ordered an investigation on this on Thursday. The couple married in 2015 and have two kids.
Talib's wife moved to her father's home after alleged molestation
The FIR was registered after neighbors of Talib revealed that Nusrat had been living at her father Mohammad Tahir's home for long. The lawyer had allegedly thrashed her for dowry. Nusrat, her father, and several other locals brought a written complaint and court's order. Further, Talib's brother was also booked for molestation. Indian Express reported Talib couldn't be reached for a comment.
Talib booked under several provisions of RPC
Reportedly, the police will now attempt to take Nusrat's statement before judicial magistrate under Section 164 Ranbir Penal Code (RPC). For demanding dowry, physically assaulting his wife, threatening with divorce and attempting to kill her, several provisions of RPC have been slapped on Talib.
