Himachal: Kashmiri student glorifies Pulwama suicide-attacker on social media, arrested
A Kashmiri student of a private university in Solan, Himachal Pradesh was "rusticated" and later arrested for allegedly making anti-national remarks on social media, police said today. Tahseen Gul of Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar was arrested yesterday as he glorified the suicide attacker Adil Ahmad Dar, who was behind the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed last Thursday, on WhatsApp.
Gul updated his WhatsApp profile picture and status glorifying Dar
21-year-old Gul was pursuing BTech at Chitkara University located on Pinjore-Nalagarh national highway in Baddi tehsil of Solan district. He updated his WhatsApp profile picture with Dar's photo and wrote, "Allah Tallah aap ki shahadat kabool kare (may Allah accept your martyrdom)" in his status. Following this, the fellow students and the university filed a complaint against him and he was arrested on Saturday.
Gul posted anti-national remarks 'creating a tense situation': Varsity Dean
A case was registered on the basis of a complaint by the university administration, a police official said. In the complaint, Dean Administration, Chitkara University, Col AK Chauhan (retired) alleged that Gul posted some anti-national remarks on social media "creating a tense situation" in the campus. Gul has been "rusticated" by the university and further handed over to the police for legal action.
Police confiscated Gul's mobile phone and laptop for investigation
The Kashmiri student has been charged under Section 153 B (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). "Police have confiscated Gul's mobile phone and a laptop which are being scrutinized by cyber experts," Indian Express reported.
