Continuous shelling by Pakistan hits education sector in Kashmir
Continuous shelling by Pakistan has hit J&K's education scenario. At least one school premise has been heavily damaged. Parts of walls of Faquir Dara School in Poonch's Karmara sector have completely broken. Around 25 schools have been shut down in the affected areas, including in Shahpur and Balakote. Earlier this week, 50 children were trapped inside two schools due to ceasefire violation in Nowshera.
Institutes in Kashmir have suffered badly since Burhan Wani's killing
Last year after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani's death, local schools remained closed for about three months. Around 20 were set ablaze during the unrest. In fact, since Wani's death in July, education institutes in Kashmir have remained shut on 60% of working days. However, exams were held on time last year, much to the consternation of students who didn't have time to prepare.
Evacuation plan prepared, shelter arrangements made
Now officials have said that more schools are likely to be shut down due to Pakistani firing. Evacuation plans are also being prepared. Shelter arrangements have been made in case of emergency. Ambulances have been parked near danger zones. There are reports of unexploded shells lying around. Officials have warned the public not to touch unfamiliar objects.
Meanwhile, one soldier killed, two injured in two days
There was shelling by Pakistan even today on July 22. An Indian Army soldier was injured in shelling by Pakistan along the LoC in Rajouri district. Yesterday, Rifleman Jayadrath Singh was killed and Rifleman Sachin Kumar was wounded in ceasefire violation in Sunderbani sector. According to defence ministry sources, the Pakistani Army is using automatics, small arms and mortars.
