Kashmir: Brothers of rifleman Aurangzeb, murdered by terrorists, join Army
Two younger brothers of rifleman Aurangzeb, who was abducted and murdered by terrorists last year, have joined the Indian Army to keep his legacy alive. A defense spokesperson said Mohammed Tariq, 23, and Mohammed Shabbir, 21, attended an enrolment parade of 100 new recruits in the Territorial Army, which was held in Rajouri on Monday. They will now undergo training at Punjab Regiment Center.
Backstory: On his way home for Eid, Aurangzeb was kidnapped
To recall, Aurangzeb was kidnapped by terrorists in broad daylight while he was going back home in Poonch to celebrate Eid. After his abduction, the army launched a massive manhunt, but couldn't save him. The young soldier, who was a part of the team that eliminated Hizbul terrorist Sameer Tiger, was murdered a few kilometers away from his residence.
The brothers vowed to avenge Aurangzeb's death
The slain army man's brothers said they joined forces to keep his legacy alive and to "avenge his death". "We have joined the Army for the love of our country and accepted the challenge of avenging the killing of our brother Aurangzeb by Hizbul terrorists in South Kashmir," Shabbir said. After donning uniforms, the brothers happily posed with parents Mohammed Hanif and Raaj Begum.
Meanwhile, Tariq said they will make Aurangzeb proud
"Our brother gave his life for nation and we will also follow his footsteps. We will not step back when it comes to sacrificing our lives for the nation. We will make him proud and will make Punjab regiment proud by our duty," said Tariq.
Visibly proud, Hanif said all his sons will join Army
Separately, Hanif, who is a former soldier and joined BJP recently, said, "My sons have joined the army. I had told the Raksha Mantri and top officers of the Indian Army that all my sons would wear the uniform forever and here you are, two have joined already." He said his family has always served the nation and the legacy will continue.
Not everyone can sacrifice life for the nation: Hanif
Further, Hanif said Aurangzeb was trapped and killed by cowards. "Yes, I have lost my son Aurangzeb and death lurks a soldier but then not many have the guts to sacrifice their life for the nation," he added. Interestingly, Hanif's eldest son Mohammed Qasim is also a soldier. Moreover, his younger sons 17-year-old Zaffar Iqbal and 15-year-old Aasim also have the same dreams.
