'Kashmir azadi' slogans at RG Kar protests, Centre seeks report
The central government has reportedly asked for a detailed report from the West Bengal administration concerning the alleged chanting of "Kashmir Mange Azadi" (Kashmir wants freedom) slogans during a protest rally in Kolkata. The rally was organized to demand justice for a trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has identified approximately 15-20 participants who allegedly raised these controversial slogans, sources in the Union Home Ministry told India Today.
Rally organizers may be summoned by Kolkata Police
The rally took place in the Jadavpur area of Kolkata and was part of a nationwide wave of protests by healthcare professionals demanding safer working conditions. The organizers of this rally are also likely to be summoned by the Kolkata Police for questioning. The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has condemned the video, with party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh stating that they oppose and condemn this separatist approach amid the RG Kar issue.
Kolkata Police file case, scrutinize CCTV footage
The Kolkata Police has already filed a case against unknown people for allegedly raising the slogans. They are also scrutinizing CCTV footage from the protest site to identify those involved in the incident. The case was filed on Tuesday under Sections 152 (actions threatening India's sovereignty, unity, or integrity) and 285 (safety of people in public places such as public roads) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
