Bengaluru: 35-year-old man given death sentence for raping, murdering 6-year-old

A Bengaluru city court on Saturday handed death sentence to a 35-year-old man for murdering a six-year-old girl, last year.
54th City Civil and Sessions Judge M Lathakumari also sentenced convict Anil Balagar to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for rape. He was slapped with a fine of Rs. 10,000.
The judge directed the state government to pay Rs. 2 lakh to victim's family.
A barbaric act
Balagar kept girl's body hidden in house
A father of two daughters, Balagar, lured the victim into her house. The girl was playing outside her grandfather's house, and the convict was a neighbor.
The girl went missing on April 20, 2017, and her grandfather lodged a complaint with the police.
On the day the victim went missing, Balagar informed others he was leaving for his native place.
Details
Foul smell of body from Balagar's house alerted police
After leaving for his native place, Balagar switched off his phone. Three days later, foul smell emanated from his house, and neighbors alerted the police.
On unlocking the house, the victim's body was found. The investigation revealed she was smothered with a pillow after being raped.
Public prosecutor Channa Venkataramanappa said the recent ordinance has no relation to the judgment.
