Karnataka: Class-9 student found dead in school washroom, Vice-Principal booked
NP Chingappa, a Class-9 student of Sainik School, Kudige, near Kushalnagar, Kodagu district, Karnataka, was found dead in the school washroom on Saturday. The school's Vice Principal and four other staff members have been booked for murder by the police, after Chingappa's father alleged his son was harassed. Chingappa's father Naganda T Poovaiah is the hockey coach at the same school.
Boy went missing at 2 PM, found unconscious by warden
Reportedly, Chingappa went missing on Saturday at 2 PM, and his father was informed about it hours later. The warden found the boy lying unconscious in washroom. He was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced brought dead by doctors. The school told police Chingappa might have ingested poisonous solution meant for lab purposes.
Poovaiah alleged he complained about his son's harassment multiple times
Poovaiah claimed he complained to Vice-Principal about his son's harassment many times, but he was ignored. "My son had complained about the torture by the computer teacher, Kannada teacher, administrative officer and the warden," he said in the police complaint. Those booked by police include Vice Principal Seema, Computer teacher Govindaraja, Kannada teacher GK Manjappa, administrative officer D Mathew and warden Sunil.
Case against accused filed after Nirmala Sitharaman intervened
The locals joined Poovaiah in protest, after which MLC Sunil Subramani had to intervene. He called MP Pratap Simha, who later called Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. SP Rajendra Prasad booked the accused under IPC Section 302 for murder. "If it happens to my son today, tomorrow it will be someone else," Poovaiah said and revealed he wanted his son to join Indian Army.
Meanwhile, school said cadet was counselled for indiscipline
The post-mortem would be done today. Kushalnagar inspector said the preliminary investigation is going on. Meanwhile, the school released a statement revealing Cadet Chingappa was counselled by a teacher for indiscipline. "Cadet Chingappa NP was declared brought dead by the PHC, Kudige, on June 23 at 8 pm. The school is rendering all support to the police," the school, further, said.
Rising number of students' death in school campuses is alarming
Just last week, a class 9 school was found in a pool of blood in a Vadodara school. His senior, who allegedly stabbed him, was held the same day. In 2017, a Class-2 student was killed inside the premises of Ryan International School, Gurugram by a Class-11 senior. The violence that has taken over schools hints kids aren't safe even at institutions anymore.
