Kanpur: Couple dupes people of ₹35cr with 'age-reversing time machine'
A couple from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has been accused of swindling over two dozen couples out of ₹35 crore. The duo, identified as Rajeev Dubey and his wife Rashmi, allegedly promised their victims an "Israeli-made time machine" that could make them look like 25-year-olds again. They specifically targeted older individuals with claims that the high pollution levels in Kanpur had accelerated their aging process.
The couple's 'oxygen therapy' and time machine scheme
The couple lured their victims with an "oxygen therapy" that they claimed could reverse the effects of aging and pollution. They set up a therapy center called "Revival World" in Kanpur's Kidwai Nagar area, where they promised to introduce a machine from Israel that could transform an elderly person into a 25-year-old. Senior police official Anjali Vishwakarma revealed that the couple offered packages for ₹6,000 for 10 sessions and ₹90,000 for a three-year reward system.
Police launch manhunt for the couple
The police have launched a manhunt for the couple after an FIR was lodged by three of the couples who claim to have been duped. Renu Singh, one of the victims, filed a police complaint alleging that she was cheated out of ₹10.75 lakh and that many couples were duped of about ₹35 crore in total. The case against the accused has been registered under section 318(4)(cheating) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
More victims expected to come forward
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankita Sharma stated that there could be over two dozen victims. "An FIR has been filed at the Kidwai Nagar police station, and the search for the couple is on. Airports have also been alerted to prevent them from fleeing the country," said Sharma. The police believe that more victims are likely to come forward as the investigation progresses.
