Another JNU Professor accused of molestation, complaint filed
A JNU Professor was accused of sexual molestation by a PhD scholar, making it the third such incident in two months. The police registered a complaint against the accused professor of the School of Social Sciences under IPC Sections 354 (Assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (insult modesty of women).
Students' Union says complainant approached police directly
JNU students' union President, Geeta Kumari said they are looking into the matter. She added the victim approached the police before coming to them. President of ABVP's JNU unit, Vijay Kumar demanded strict action against the professor and wrote on Facebook, "Another communist professor and ex-JNUTA (JNU Teachers' Association) convenor sexually assaulted his student." The teacher, however, said he knew nothing about the allegations.
According to ABVP, Professor tried accessing victim's laptop
Vijay Kumar wrote, "The teacher is from the group of adult education at the School of Social Sciences, and had allegedly accessed the complainant's laptop also at some point to send inappropriate emails. The student has not been able to make submissions either."
Professor Atul Johri was arrested on sexual harassment charges
In March, Professor Atul Johri of School of Life Sciences was arrested after eight female students levelled molestation charges against him. He was later released on bail. Dozens of JNU students took to the streets demanding Johri's arrest. Commenting on his release, Geeta Kumari had said, "We don't understand why eight FIRs were not enough to keep a sexual predator in jail."
