Reliance places an order of 18-20 million of these handsets
Reliance has already placed an order of 18-20 million units for the handsets with Chinese vendors such as Zhejiang Techain Electronics Technology Co., Shenzhen CHINO-E Communication Co, Crave and Megaphone. The shipments are expected to start by late July or early August.
Reliance's disruption with a 4G VoLTE feature phone
In India, there is a dearth of feature phones with 4G connectivity. Lava and Micromax had launched the feature phones with 4G capabilities but had priced it at Rs. 3000. Reliance's feature phone at Rs. 500 could be disruptive particularly as it comes with 4G VoLTE ability. Additionally, Reliance Jio could add to its 100 million users at the base level with this phone.

Reliance Jio feature phone is expected to come in 2 variants: with a Qualcomm processor, and with a Spreadtrum chip. It will have a 2.4-inch display, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, micro SD card support, 2-megapixel rear camera, VGA front camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, and NFC. Thanks to the free subscription to Jio apps people will be able to access digital content as well.
