Woman visits doctor for stomach pains; he prescribes her condoms
In a shocking incident, a Jharkhand doctor prescribed a woman condoms after she paid him a visit with complaints of stomach pain. The incident came to light after Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Kunal Sarangi raised the issue in the monsoon session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. The doctor, identified as Asraf Badar, is now facing a probe. Here are more details.
When woman showed prescription at drugstore; shopkeeper started laughing
The incident took place at the Ghatshila government hospital of West Singhbhum district in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on July 23. According to Jharkhand Live, the woman (55) is a class 4-grade employee at the hospital and visited Dr. Badar with complaints of stomach ache. She was handed over a prescription, which she then took to a medical store, where the shopkeeper reportedly started laughing.
Woman's family told her she had been prescribed condoms
Upon inquiry, the woman told the shopkeeper that she had stomach aches, which is when the shopkeeper gave her the required medication of their own volition, Jharkhand Live reported. When she went home, her kin informed her that the doctor had prescribed her a condom.
Probe initiated; matter raised in Jharkhand Assembly
The woman raised the issue to Ghatshila sub-divisional hospital in-charge Shankar Tudu. Tudu told reporters, "Based on the complaint of the woman, a medical team has been constituted which has started the probe." The team includes one psychiatrist and was constituted on Sunday. Sarangi, who represents the Baharagora constituency, also notified Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das and Health Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi about the matter.
Meanwhile, doctor claims condoms 'probably' intended for woman's son, daughter-in-law
However, as the matter continued to heat up in the state assembly, Dr. Badar maintained that he is innocent. According to News18 Hindi, Dr. Badar claimed to have no knowledge about the incident. Instead, he said that it is possible the prescription for a condom was intended for the woman's son and daughter-in-law who had "probably" visited him.
