Pilots call in 'sick', Jet Airways cancels 14 flights
Leading airline Jet Airways canceled 14 flights on Sunday after many pilots, upset with unpaid salaries, called in 'sick'. Since August, senior management of the airlines didn't get their full salaries, though they received a share of the salary in September. In the months of October and November, they didn't get paid at all. The spokesperson said Jet was looking into the matter.
Pilots say they can't work this way
Dishing more details about this, sources said National Aviator's Guild (NAG) would take up the issue with the management. NAG is a body representing at least 1,000 Jet pilots. "They (pilots) are protesting against non-payment of salaries and the attitude," sources said and added a few pilots have also written to Chairman Naresh Goyal, voicing their concerns. They are unwilling to work this way.
Jet re-accommodated the passengers
Passengers said they were informed about the cancellation through a text but added the airlines compensated and re-accommodated them. Meanwhile, the spokesperson said the flights were canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, and not 'pilot non-cooperation, as being unduly speculated'. The statement added Jet was committed to meet the obligations and was constantly working towards it.
