Suicide or murder? Jamia student's bullet-riddled body found inside car
The body of a 20-year-old Jamia Millia Islamia student, a national-level hockey player, was found in his car inside a colony at Delhi's Sarojini Nagar yesterday. Rizwan Khan's body was riddled with bullet wounds DCP Romil Baaniya said prima facie it looked like a suicide, but Khan's family has alleged foul play: his body was found in the neighborhood where his female friend stays.
What happened, according to the victim's family?
According to Khan's family, two days ago, he left a bag containing Rs. 2L and a cellphone at her house. When he didn't return till late, his family called on his number and her cousin answered, but refused to give their address. The next day, the girl, who is currently in Bhopal, and her father called separately and asked them to collect the bag.
The girl's family explains holes in their story
Khan's relatives said her family gave unclear answers, saying they found the bag somewhere and then that he left it there. When they reached their house, they noticed Khan's car parked nearby. He was in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound on his temple. Her family claims they didn't provide their address at first because they weren't certain the caller was Khan's kin.
What do the police have to say?
Khan's family claimed he must have been killed and then moved to the car as no bloodstain was found inside. Police, however, refuted their claims, saying there were bloodstains inside. Moreover, the gun with which he was shot was found in his hand. "It appears he was angry after not finding her at the house," said an officer. Investigation is underway.
