Jagannath Temple priest to build spiritual luxury resort for ₹200cr
What's the story
Sevayat Daitapati Bhabani Das, a Jagannath Temple priest in Puri, has announced his plans of building a luxury resort with a heavy dose of spirituality.
The 'Jagannatham' project will be developed under Meridian Mist Hotel & Resort, and is estimated to cost ₹200 crore.
Situated on a seven-acre beachfront property on the Puri-Konark marine drive about 8km from the Jagannath Temple, it will have 300 rooms for high-end travelers as well as pilgrims looking for spiritual serenity.
Unique features
Resort to offer a 'satvik' experience
Das has stressed that the resort will be a pure vegetarian and non-liquor retreat, striving for a "satvik" experience.
"Puri is not just a destination. It is a sacred abode where divinity meets the ocean. The resort will offer a blend of spiritual tranquility and luxury hospitality," the priest said.
The 'Jagannatham' project will cost an estimated ₹110 crore to construct, not including land costs.
Project timeline
Resort to redefine spiritual tourism in Puri
The 'Jagannatham' resort is expected to be inaugurated 14-16 months later, ahead of the 2026 Rath Yatra.
Das believes this will redefine spiritual tourism in Puri, attracting pilgrims and high-end travelers alike.
He clarified he owns the land the resort will be built on, so there is no conflict of interest with the Jagannath Temple.
The resort will offer guests a unique blend of modern comforts and spiritual experiences.
Exclusive access
Membership program for the resort
Das and his family own 100% of the resort, but would consider diluting equity depending on the response to the project's membership program.
Membership priced at ₹3.5 lakh, ₹5 lakh, and ₹7 lakh gives members a three-night stay per month for five years, making it a cost-effective alternative to luxury resorts in Puri.
The first phase targets 5,000 members who would get exclusive access and benefits at the 'Jagannatham' resort.
