Another BSF jawan killed in Pak firing along IB
Following the Pakistan ceasefire violation, another BSF jawan lost his life and one other was injured earlier today in an unprovoked firing along the International Border (IB) in Arnia sector of Jammu. The slain constable Sitaram Upadhyay, 28, hailed from Giridih in Jharkhand and had joined the force in 2011. Upadhyay is survived by a three-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter. Here's more.
Unprovoked and intermittent firing and mortar shelling by Pak troops
A senior official said one BSF trooper was injured during the firing in Heerangar on the night of May 16 and 17. It was stopped yesterday afternoon but Pakistan resumed last night in Arnia killing one jawan. He added that unprovoked mortar shelling by Pakistan started at 4 am today in RS Pura sector, which was "suitably countered" by BSF units.
Infiltration attempts increasing as PM Modi's visit comes closer
The attempts to infiltrate the IB and incidents of unprovoked firing have increased in the last few days even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to reach Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow as part of an official visit. A BSF jawan was killed along the Jammu border area earlier this week while he was thwarting an infiltration bid.
