J&K: 5 LeT, Hizbul Mujahideen militants killed in Kulgam encounter
Five militants belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Hafiz Saeed-founded Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chowgam in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir today, said a police official. An army official said weapons and war-like stores have been recovered from the encounter site, adding that the operation in the South Kashmir district area is over.
While forces were searching the area, militants opened fire
The encounter between the militants and security forces began this morning after the forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Chowgam area following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants there. While the forces were conducting the searches, the militants fired upon the forces.

A police official confirmed the affiliations of the militants to the outfits and that their killing was a huge success for the forces. He said most of the slain militants were "involved in a series of terror acts including the killing of two bank employees and many policemen." "The militants were also involved in bank robberies and weapon looting," the police official said.
Clashes broke out after encounter, train services suspended
Meanwhile, clashes broke out near the site of the encounter as groups of youths started pelting stones on the forces. He said a few youths have been injured in the clash. Baramulla-Qazigund train services have been suspended due to apprehensions of law and order problems.
