Security forces gun down 2 terrorists in J&K's Pulwama
Security forces on Wednesday killed two terrorists belonging to the proscribed terror groups Ansar Ghazwatul Hind and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Jammu and Kashmir, the police said. The terrorists, identified as Ansar Ghazwatul Hind's Safat Muzaffar Sofi alias Muavia and LeT's Umer Teli alias Talha, were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Tral area of Pulwama district.
The terrorists were wanted in a Sarpanch's murder
According to the police, the duo was wanted in multiple terror attacks, including the murder of a sarpanch in Kashmir's Khonmoh area earlier this year. The two terrorists had lately relocated to Tral, the police said. Earlier on April 1, an unnamed terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian area.
Four attacks within 24 hours
On Monday, terrorists fired at and injured a Kashmiri Pandit shopkeeper and two non-local laborers in separate instances. The injured shopkeeper was identified as Bal Krishnan of Chotigam village of Shopian district, and the two laborers as Patleshwar Kumar and Jako Chowdhary, both Bihar natives. Later, in Srinagar, a CRPF jawan was martyred and another was wounded after gunmen opened fire at them.
Multiple attacks on civilians in past few months
Monday's attacks were followed by an attack on two non-local laborers from Punjab who were shot at by terrorists in Pulwama's Nowpora area. Several attacks on civilians, policemen, and politicians have been reported in the Kashmir valley for the last few months. As per the police, militants from The Resistance Front have been carrying out targeted killings to disrupt peace.
Police begins night patrolling to prevent attacks
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, Vijay Kumar stated on Wednesday that police and security personnel have begun night patrols in remote areas of Kashmir where non-locals work and Kashmiri Pandits dwell in order to avert terrorist strikes on "soft targets." According to the IGP, the action is intended to prevent terrorist assaults on non-locals and members of the minority population.
L-G Manoj Sinha condemns the attacks
Meanwhile, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha issued a statement on Monday, condemning the deadly terrorist attacks on civilians and CRPF personnel. "My deepest condolences to the family of martyred HC Vishal Kumar and prayers for the early recovery of the injured. Our security forces will give a befitting reply to perpetrators of despicable attacks," Sinha said.
