Congress candidate from Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, T Jeevan Reddy, on Saturday addressed the viral video showing him slapping an elderly woman while campaigning. The woman, a laborer under the rural employment guarantee scheme, claimed that Reddy slapped her after she disclosed her intention to vote for the 'flower' symbol in the upcoming May 13 election. When asked about the incident, Reddy was seen replying, "It was lovely."

The incident occurred in a village in the Armur Assembly segment. Reddy was joined by P Vinay Kumar Reddy and others, who were seen laughing as the politician slapped the woman. Speaking to ANI, the woman said, "I neither have a house nor do I get a pension. I told him to please show mercy on me. Then he assured me by saying, 'Dorasani (queen) you would get it.' By showing that I was slapped, isn't this defaming me?"

The Congress has fielded Reddy against sitting MP Arvind Dharmapuri of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Dharmapuri won the Nizamabad constituency in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, securing 4,80,584 votes, while Bharat Rashtra Samithi's Kalvakuntla Kavitha secured 4,09,709 votes. The Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 17 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in Telangana. The state will vote on May 13, and the result will be announced on June 4.
