Days after an Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientist was found murdered at his Hyderabad home, the police have solved the mystery. They have arrested one Janagama Srinivas (39) in the murder of S Suresh Kumar (56), an employee of ISRO's National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC). Reportedly, Srinivas had sexual relations with Kumar and killed him after the latter refused to pay him.
Srinivas 'exploited' ISRO scientist's 'loneliness' for monetary favors: Police
Srinivas, a lab technician at Vijaya Diagnostics, Ameerpet, was arrested on Friday. Reportedly, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said that the deceased lived away from his family and was lonely. He was "exploited" by Srinivas, who sought monetary favors in return for sex. On September 30, after having sex with Kumar at his Ameerpet home, Srinivas demanded money and killed him when he refused.
Kumar found unreachable on Tuesday; wife alerted police
Notably, the incident came to light when Kumar's wife, who lives in Chennai, called him and found him unavailable. She contacted a few relatives who then went to Kumar's Ameerpet residence and found it locked from the inside. Subsequently, the wife rushed to Hyderabad and informed the police who broke into the flat. Kumar's body was found naked, there.
Srinivas used to regularly visit Suresh Kumar's flat: Commissioner
Further, a probe was launched on Mrs. Kumar's complaint. According to TOI, Commissioner Kumar said, "During the preliminary probe, we came to know that Srinivas used to regularly visit Kumar's flat in Ameerpet." He added, "Based on the call details of the victim and the accused, blood and hair samples collected from the spot, and CCTV footage analysis from different places, we arrested Srinivas."
Accused did internet search on how to commit murder
Apparently, the murder was pre-meditated. The accused had procured a hunting sickle beforehand and conducted an internet search on how to commit murder. Srinivas later confessed that he had sexual relations with Kumar for over two months and killed the latter when he refused to pay Rs. 50,000. The police recovered Kumar's two gold rings and his cellphone from Srinivas's possession.
Kumar survived by wife and two kids
According to India Today, Kumar had been a resident of Hyderabad for 20 years and lived alone after his wife was transferred to Chennai in 2005. He has two children, a son settled in the United States and a daughter who lives in Delhi.
