What's the story
Images of a purported new Rs. 50 note are doing the rounds on social media. There's no official confirmation of their veracity though.
The notes are pale turquoise in color. They bear the signature of RBI Governor Urjit Patel.
Last December, the RBI had announced it will issue Rs. 20 and Rs. 50 notes with numerals in the number panel in ascending size.

Meanwhile, Rs. 200 notes reportedly in printing
Last month, reports emerged that the RBI has already started printing of new Rs. 200 notes that are expected to hit the market by August.
Complementing the push to circulation of low-value currency, the bank has also stopped printing Rs. 2,000 notes for the current financial year.
According to SBI, the currency in circulation in the economy has reached 84% of pre-demonetization levels.
