Islamic State offers Allahabad-youth $5000/month for information on Indian Intelligence
The terrorist outfit Islamic State (IS) tried luring an Allahabad youth and offered him $5000 per month in exchange of information on Indian Intelligence Agencies. He declined the offer and approached police, who have launched an investigation. He was made a member of a WhatsApp group that had the IS logo on it. IS has been spreading terror around the globe for years.
Youth was added to WhatsApp-group repeatedly while watching movie online
On Friday, the youth was watching a movie online when he was added to a WhatsApp group having IS logo. Scared, he left the group but was added repeatedly. The Canada based admin then sent a threatening text to the youth asking him to work for IS and provide intel in exchange of $5000/month. The youth switched off his mobile and informed his family.
Youth asked to switch phone on for further investigation
An FIR has been registered, SP (City) Brajesh Kumar Srivastava revealed. The ATS has asked the youth to switch on his phone for further investigation. The cyber cell has been tasked with the probe. Police are conducting a search to learn if other people got similar offers. A native of Mundera, the youth used to stay and work in Mumbai.
Till 2017, 100 Indians joined IS
In 2015, two Kerala citizens were arrested for 'connections' with IS. Soon after, two more were detained on similar grounds. A Home Ministry report revealed 100 Indians had joined IS until 2017. Considering the country's Muslim population, the number was seen as just a speck.
