IRCTC I-ticket cancelation: Rules and charges
What's the story
An IRCTC (Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation) I-ticket is a normal online-booked ticket for which a user pays to get a paper ticket delivered at their specified delivery address.
The ticket is similar to the one bought at Railways booking counter.
Cancelation of such I-tickets can be done at any computerised reservation counter across the country.

Rules about refund of fare and charges of I-ticket cancelation
No cash refund is provided for IRCTC I-ticket cancelations done at the counter.
Also, the service charge is non-refundable.
Refund of fare due, is made after the deduction of cancelation charges of the fare, as applicable.
For instance, in case of an RAC or waitlisted ticket cancelation, a cancelation charge of Rs. 60 is levied.

I-ticket cancelation charges for different train classes
For a confirmed ticket canceled more than 48 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train, flat cancelation charge for AC first class/executive is Rs. 240; Rs. 200 for AC 2-tier, Rs. 180 for AC 3-tier/AC Chair Car and Rs. 120 for Sleeper class.

Cancelation charges depend on the time of cancelation of I-ticket
In case a confirmed ticket is canceled within 48 hours but at least 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, a cancelation charge of 25% of the fare is levied.
Furthermore, for I-tickets canceled at the boarding station, within 4 hours prior to the scheduled train departure, cancelation charges will be 50% of the fare, subject to minimum flat fare.
