IRCTC: Bank transaction charges while using Netbanking, Cards and Mobile-Wallets

What's the story

Indian Railways Catering and Tourism and Corporation (IRCTC) offers the facility of booking train tickets online, via its website and mobile app. One can make payment through a number of channels, viz. net-banking, debit/credit cards and mobile wallets, among others. However, there are certain extra charges for each of these payment modes. Here are details of bank charges levied on various available options.

Net banking

Bank payment charges on various net-banking platforms

Bank payment charges on net-banking gateways for major banks like SBI, SBI Associates, Federal Bank, Indian Bank, Union Bank, Andhra Bank, Punjab National Bank, Allahabad Bank, Axis, HDFC Bank, Bank of Baroda and OBC etc. is Rs. 10 (+applicable taxes). But, for certain banks like IndusInd Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, IDBI, South Indian Bank, City Union Bank, there are no payment charges at all.

Cards

Bank Payment charges on various banks' Debit/credit cards

For all domestic Visa/Master debit cards, there are no bank charges for payments upto Rs. 1 lakh. Bank charges for American Express cards is 1.8% of the transaction amount. Further, on RuPay debit cards (Powered by Kotak Bank), there's no payment charge for payment upto Rs. 1 lakh. And, there's a 1.8% charge on all domestic Visa/Master credit cards powered by HDFC bank.

Wallets

Bank payment charges on different mobile wallets and cash cards

While making IRCTC online booking payment using mobile wallet platforms like Oxigen wallet, Paytm wallet, Mobikwik and FreeCharge, transaction charge is 1.80% plus applicable taxes. On I-Cash Card, transaction charge is 1.5%, while for Airtel Money, the same is 0.75% + applicable taxes. Apart, online payment charges on OLAMONEY Wallet is 1.30% plus applicable taxes.
