Intern found murdered at Delhi's St Stephen's Hospital
An intern at North Delhi's St Stephen's Hospital was found murdered inside the CT scan laboratory yesterday morning. The throat of Shashwat Pandey, a third-year medical student from Allahabad, had been slit. Suspicion is on fellow doctor Suyash Gupta who hails from UP's Etawah. He has been missing since the incident came to light. Shashwat's family has alleged Suyash was stalking and harassing him.
What happened?
The murder was discovered in the morning around 9am when calls to the radiology department went unanswered. An attendant then found the entrance door locked from inside. Guards broke the padlock and entered the room to find Shaswat's body in the restroom. According to police, it happened some time during 2-3am. There were signs of a scuffle. The access key-controlled mechanism had been damaged.
What clues point to Suyash's involvement?
The last person to access the CT scan room was Suyash at 1:40am on August 25. CCTV footage shows him driving out of the hospital in the morning. His car was found abandoned at Anand Vihar. Cops think he has fled to Nepal. His last Facebook post said, "It was nice staying in India." Suyash has been suspended thrice in one year for misbehavior.
What is happening now?
An FIR under Section 302 (murder) has been filed. Teams have been sent to the Indo-Nepal border as well as Suyash's hometown. His call logs and social media profiles are being examined.
