Odisha CM announces interest-free loans for women SHGs
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced interest-free loans of up to Rs. 3 lakh for the women self-help groups (WSHGs) in the state. He said this while addressing the 'Mission Shakti' convention in Puri, which was attended by about 50,000 women from different parts of the state. There are around six lakh WSHGs in the state. Initiative would benefit about 70 lakh women, says Patnaik
"I'm glad to make this announcement that you (WSHGs) will be getting loans at 0% interest," the chief minister said, adding that the initiative would benefit about 70 lakh women. He also distributed financial assistance of Rs. 3,000 each to six lakh WSHGs as part of the state government's efforts to digitally empower women. Patnaik had, last year, promised smartphones to six lakh WSHGs.
Odisha's Mission Shakti was launched in 2001
During the 'Make in Odisha' conclave in November last year, Patnaik had promised smartphones to six lakh Mission Shakti groups in the state. Mission Shakti is Odisha's flagship self-help group program, which was launched by the Chief Minister in 2001.
