Inter-state gang, that looted more than 100 jewelers, busted
The Ghaziabad police, on Thursday, claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of thieves that targeted jewelry shops with the arrest of four of its members, including a woman. Interestingly, three jewelers also used to help the gang regularly. The gang has targeted 50 shops in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Delhi, and the National Capital Region (NCR), the police said.
Items recovered from the accused
Over four dozen anklets, rings, earrings, two silver ingots, two lakh rupees cash, a country-made pistol, and cartridges were recovered from the accused. A gas cutter and other instruments used for cutting shutters and a car used in the commission of crimes were also seized.
Kingpin Tanveer and other gang members are absconding
The arrested persons told the police that they would conduct a recce of jewelry shops before targeting them. They used gas cutters to cut through shutters and safety lockers containing jewelry inside shops. Police teams are trying to nab the kingpin, Tanveer. Senior Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani has announced a reward of Rs. 25,000 for the arrest of the gang members.

SP City 2 Gyanendra Kumar Singh said, "More than 45 cases have been revealed to be filed against the gang, including Tanveer and his wife, across the country. The gang has committed more than 100 felonies." Local thieves from many states also worked for them. Shama has given many details and other names are likely to spill out after Tanveer's arrest.
How were the robberies planned?
Explaining the process, the arrested woman, Shama, said, "First, local thieves were hired who used to do a recce of the area. Tanveer used to fly in after the day of the robbery was finalized. He used to stay at expensive hotels." Shama would fly down later and after the felony was committed, they would take the jewelry to Meerut by train.
The gang has been committing crime for ten years
Till now, the gang has committed theft in several states including UP, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and various cities including Mumbai and Bengaluru. They have been robbing jewelers for almost ten years.
