GST: Inter-state e-way Bill to rollout starting April 1
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council announced on Saturday that the inter-state e-way Bill will be rolled-out in a phased manner starting April 1, 2018. The states will be divided in four groups, each of which would be included every week. The Bill is likely to be implemented across India by April-end, Arun Jaitley revealed after the 26th GST Council meet. Here's more.
The date was recommended during a February 4 ministerial meeting
GST requires an e-way bill for uninterrupted movement across the country of all goods valued at over Rs. 50,000. A ministerial panel under Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi on February 24 proposed April 1 as the date to implement the system for smooth inter-state goods transportation, reported news agency IANS.
Nothing concrete on return filing processes yet
The GST Council has also mulled over two alternate ways of return filing processes but hasn't finalized anything yet. The present process of return filing and the roll-out of reverse charge mechanism have been extended for another three months, Jaitley said. I-T experts and the group of ministers are expected to take Saturday's discussion further and come up with ideas for effective implementation.
