Influential biker dies in accident, mother accuses husband of murder
Cross-country biker Sana Iqbal, who made headlines with her solo expedition against depression and suicide, died in a car crash near Hyderabad yesterday. Her husband Abdul Nadeem was injured too and is undergoing treatment. In 2015, the 29-year-old biker rode 38,000kms on her Royal Enfield for an anti-suicide campaign, particularly targeting students. However, her mother has alleged "cold-blooded murder" and blamed her estranged husband.
What happened?
Sana and Abdul were heading home in Tolichowki in a Fiat Punto; Abdul was driving. At around 3:30am, the car rammed into the median on the Outer Ring Road, near Army Public School. They were rushed to hospital, but she was declared brought dead. Police are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident. A case has been lodged under Section 304A and others.
Mother alleges "cold-blooded murder" by estranged husband
Sana's mother Shaheen alleges it's a "cold-blooded murder made to look like an accident". Reportedly, Sana was tortured by Abdul. In a purported email, she had urged friends to remain suspicious if she died of seemingly natural causes. Police confirmed a complaint was lodged by Sana against Abdul for harassment in May'17, but claimed the couple had been counseled and had "probably compromised".
