Indrani Mukerjea alleges assault by Byculla jail workers
Accused in her daughter Sheena Bora's murder, Indrani Mukerjea accused the Byculla jail staff of beating her brutally and threatening of sexual assault. Following this incident, Mukerjea has filed a complaint in the Session Court through her lawyer. A Special CBI Court has thereby directed Byculla jail authorities to produce Mukerjea before the Court. Mukerjea also alleged verbal abuse by the jail staff.
Byculla jail riot
Over 200 jail inmates protested against the jail authorities last Saturday for allegedly beating a convict, Manjula Shetye to death. The convict had been sexually abused by woman police official and this led to a riot. Mukerjea was accused of instigating the riot. The jail authorities charged the inmates which included Mukerjea of creating riot, attacking the staff on duty and damaging public property.
Mukerjea files application to be produced in Court
Following the death of convict Manjula Shetye and Indrani being accused of rioting, Indrani alleged sexual abuse threat by jail staff, which the lawyer confirmed by stating bruise marks all over her client's body. Indrani's lawyer in her letter to the Court stated that her client was seeking medical treatment and if such harassment continued it would affect her.
Mukerjea's lawyer's letter in detail
The letter written by Indrani's lawyer Gunjan Mangla further stated that Indrani was beaten up brutally for speaking up against the cold-blooded murder which took place in the jail. She said that Mukerjea and other jail inmates lathi-charged after the jail riot and were even verbally abused. Advocate Mangla also stated that other jail inmates too wanted to file a case against jail staff.
