Indore hit-and-run: Speeding BMW driver was rushing to deliver cake
Gajendra Pratap Singh, the main accused in a fatal hit-and-run case in Indore, was reportedly speeding in the wrong direction to deliver a birthday cake. The incident occurred on Sunday night when Singh's BMW collided with a scooter carrying two women—Lakshmi Tomar and Diksha Jadon—in Khajarana area. Both women were returning home after attending a Ganesh temple fair when they were struck by the vehicle, leading to their deaths.
Accused driver arrested, details emerge
Singh, a 28-year-old resident of Suncity in Indore and originally from Gwalior, was arrested following a search operation by the local police. He had fled the accident scene in his car. "Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was in a hurry to deliver a cake for his friend's birthday, which is why he drove in the wrong direction," Assistant Commissioner of Police Kundan Mandloi said.
Legal proceedings initiated against Singh
Singh, who is employed at a BPO in Indore and had recently purchased the BMW second-hand, is now facing charges under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The incident occurred around 11:30pm on Sunday when his speeding car hit the scooter carrying Tomar and Jadon. "Due to the impact, both women were thrown onto the road, sustaining critical injuries," Khajrana police station in-charge Manoj Singh Sendhav told news agency PTI.
BMW hit several other people before striking Tomar, Jadon
Tomar, originally from Shivpuri, was the sole breadwinner for her family following her father's death last year. Jadon, on the other hand, was from Gwalior and worked at a public sector bank branch in Indore. The Chandigarh-registered BMW had reportedly hit several other people before striking Tomar and Jadon. After the accident, Singh abandoned his car and fled on foot, leaving the critically injured women on the road.
