IndiGo launches flights connecting Trichy with Bengaluru, Kochi
Days after making Tiruchirappalli its 51st destination, IndiGo yesterday launched two more domestic services, Trichy-Bengaluru and Trichy-Kochi, after flagging off Trichy-Chennai flights on June 1. Last month, the Gurugram-based carrier had said it will use new 74-seater ATR 72-600 aircraft for these routes. Apart from IndiGo, Jet Airways and Air Alliance also run flights from Trichy or Tiruchirappalli, a key city of Tamil Nadu.
Now, 12 flights would operate out of Trichy airport
Yesterday, in IndiGo's Bengaluru-Trichy flight, there was 67% occupancy, while in Trichy-Bengaluru, there was 32% occupancy. On the Kochi-Trichy-Kochi sector too, the flights saw 32% and 54% occupancy, respectively. Till recently, 10 flights used to take off from Trichy airport, but IndiGo's addition takes it up to 12, even as the number of domestic destinations connecting Trichy goes up to five.
Planning a trip between Trichy and Bengaluru?
Even though flight services operate between Trichy and Bengaluru, experts recommend travelling between the two cities by car, cab, bus or train. On road, a round-trip will take around 14 hours. Over the journey, you can halt at places, mostly temples.
Domestic-passenger traffic at Trichy Airport sees two-fold increase
Officials said ever since the three companies started their operations from Trichy airport, number of domestic passengers has seen a steep increase. In April-May, passenger-traffic reportedly witnessed more than two-fold increase as compared to the same period of previous year. While IndiGo leads the pack by running six flights from Trichy, Jet Airways is next with four and Air Alliance has one flight operating.
