After the pictures of the meet went viral on the internet, Pakistani skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed was trolled for his attire. Later, several Indian fans came to his rescue and defended him. Although people praised him for sticking to his roots, there were several uninvited critics. One of them was Pakistan-born Canadian writer Tarek Fatah who was just not amused, and he made it clear.

Tarek took it upon himself to point out that Sarfaraz was the only one who didn't wrap a tie around his neck and instead "dressed in pyjamas". Quite sardonically, he further added, "I'm surprised he didn't come in his Lungi-Banyan-Topi costume." In no time, Pakistani fans came out in the defense of their captain. They appreciated him for representing his culture without feeling embarrassed.
