Pyjamas or not? Indian fans defend Pakistani skipper
On Wednesday, the captains of all the ten teams participating in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 met Queen Elizabeth and Prince Harry at the Buckingham Palace. After the pictures of the meet went viral on the internet, Pakistani skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed was trolled for his attire. Later, several Indian fans came to his rescue and defended him. Here's what went down.
Sarfaraz wore white salwar kameez along with the team blazer
While everyone decided to visit the royalty in dashing suits, Sarfaraz went for a more traditional look. He was seen in a white salwar kameez along with the team blazer. Although people praised him for sticking to his roots, there were several uninvited critics. One of them was Pakistan-born Canadian writer Tarek Fatah who was just not amused, and he made it clear.
Surprised he didn't come in his Lungi-Banyan-Topi costume, tweeted Tarek
Tarek took it upon himself to point out that Sarfaraz was the only one who didn't wrap a tie around his neck and instead "dressed in pyjamas". Quite sardonically, he further added, "I'm surprised he didn't come in his Lungi-Banyan-Topi costume." In no time, Pakistani fans came out in the defense of their captain. They appreciated him for representing his culture without feeling embarrassed.
'Guess who came dressed in his pyjamas?', tweets Tarek
Pakistani fans called Tarek's remark as "stupid tweet"
'No reason for making any concessions for the queen'
However, the surprise package were the Indian fans, who also defended him keeping the heat between the two nations at bay. While one user wrote, "No reason for making any concessions for the queen", another tweeted, "I wish even Virat had the sense...of wearing his national dress too." We do share a love-hate relationship with Pakistanis.
