Railways plans veg-only menu to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti
What's the story
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Gandhi Jayanti, the Indian Railways has put forth a proposal to serve only vegetarian food on railway premises and trains on 2nd October for 2018, 2019, and 2020.
But this is just the tip of the iceberg - the Railway Board has drawn up several elaborate plans to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.
Here's more.
Plans
Celebrating the 150th Gandhi Jayanti, the Indian Railways style
Besides serving vegetarian-only food on 2nd October, the Railway Board has plans to run a 'special salt rake' from 12th March next year to commemorate the Dandi March.
Additionally, it also plans to run 'Swachhata Express' trains from Sabarmati to various railway stations which have some connection to Mahatma Gandhi.
Tickets will also be issued with a watermark containing Bapu's image.

The Railway Board's plan also includes the thematic painting of all railway stations connected to Mahatma Gandhi.
It has also proposed setting up of digital museums in such stations, depicting significant activities undertaken by Gandhiji.
A special logo designed by the Ministry of Culture is also slated to be displayed outside train coaches for the public to see.
National committee

All the aforementioned plans, however, are subject to approval by the Ministry of Culture.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, President Ram Nath Kovind chaired the first meeting of the National Committee for the commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The committee was formed in October 2017 to oversee implementation of plans and programmes for the 2019 and 2020 Gandhi Jayanti.
