Indian-origin man from Canada imprisoned for underage sex in US
An Indian-origin man in Canada has been sentenced to 46 months' imprisonment for soliciting sex from whom he believed was a 15-year-old American girl. Ontario's Dilbagh Singh had carried on a virtual relationship with the 'girl' for four months before travelling to Arizona to meet her. The operation to nab him was a part of Project Safe Childhood.
What happened?
In January 2017, 57-year-old Singh began an online relationship with a person he believed to be a 15-year-old girl, but who was actually an undercover agent. Four months later in May, he flew from Canada to Arizona to meet her. After he checked into a Flagstaff hotel, local police and federal authorities confronted him. Condoms and alcohol were seized from Singh.
What is the Project Safe Childhood?
Project Safe Childhood is a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation. It "marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims."
