Why does this story matter?
India has been rapidly expanding its vaccination coverage since it was rolled out on January 16, 2021, with healthcare workers getting inoculated in the first phase. Subsequently, it was expanded to frontline workers, those above 60 and those over 45 with comorbidities. Later, it was opened for all above 18. On January 3, 2022, it was further extended to include adolescents aged 15-18 years.
Is online registration for vaccination mandatory?
It is not mandatory to register online to get vaccinated. Beneficiaries can both register online or walk into vaccination centers where the vaccination staff can register a beneficiary. Reportedly, vaccination centers will provide for a limited number of on-spot registration slots every day. However, all beneficiaries are recommended to register online and schedule vaccination in advance for a hassle-free vaccination experience.
