'Hypocrisy at its worst': India slams Pakistan PM's UNGA address
India has shot back at Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's comments on Jammu and Kashmir at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Sharid had said that to "secure peace," India should reverse the abrogation of Article 370 and enter into a dialogue for "peaceful" resolution of the J&K issue. Indian diplomat Bhavika Mangalanandan called Sharif's statement "hypocrisy at its worst." She slammed Pakistan for criticizing the world's largest democracy, despite it being infamous for terrorism, drug trafficking, and transnational crime.
India highlights Pakistan's history of cross-border terrorism
Mangalanandan pointed out Pakistan's long-standing habit of using cross-border terrorism against its neighbors, including the attacks on India's Parliament and the financial capital, Mumbai. She also called out the irony of a country with a history of rigged elections talking about political choices within a democracy. "The real truth is that Pakistan covets our territory and has continuously used terrorism to disrupt elections in Jammu and Kashmir, an inalienable and integral part of India," she added.
Pakistan PM's Kashmir remarks labeled as 'unacceptable'
Mangalanandan called Sharif's remarks on Kashmir "unacceptable," predicting that Pakistan would respond to the truth with even more lies. She firmly stated, "Repetition will change nothing. Our stand is clear and needs no reiteration." Despite Pakistan's relentless attempts to raise the Kashmir issue at various UN forums, India has consistently asserted that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are, and will always be, an integral part of the country.
Pakistan PM's UNGA address on Kashmir and India
In his UNGA address, Sharif spoke extensively about Kashmir, likening the region's struggle to the Palestinian cause. He further said that Muslims are being targeted in India and that the increase of Islamophobia is a concerning global development. "The most alarming manifestation of Islamophobia is the Hindu supremacist agenda in India. It aggressively seeks the subjugation of 200 million Muslims and the obliteration of India's Islamic heritage," he said.
