Centre approves acquisition of advanced military equipment worth ₹1.45 trillion
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has sanctioned 10 capital acquisition proposals totaling ₹1.45 lakh crore to bolster India's defence readiness. The majority of the funding, approximately 99%, will be sourced domestically under the Buy (Indian) and Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) categories. This move is part of a broader strategy to modernize India's military capabilities and infrastructure.
Future ready combat vehicles approved for Indian Army
The DAC has also approved the procurement of Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) as part of the Indian Army's tank fleet modernization. The FRCV is envisioned as a next-generation main battle tank with enhanced mobility, all-terrain capability, multilayered protections, precision and lethal fires over and real-time situational awareness. This approval signifies a significant step toward upgrading India's ground combat capabilities in line with global advancements in military technology.
Advanced equipment approved for Indian Coast Guard
The DAC has also approved three proposals aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). These include the procurement of Dornier-228 aircraft, Next Generation Fast Patrol Vessels with high operational features in rough weather conditions, and Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels equipped with advanced technology for extended range operations. These acquisitions will significantly improve ICG's ability to conduct surveillance, patrol maritime zones, execute search and rescue missions, and coordinate disaster relief operations.
Other key approvals by the DAC
In addition to the FRCVs and ICG equipment, the DAC has approved several other key acquisitions. These include Air Defence Fire Control Radars designed to detect, track aerial targets and provide firing solutions. The council also sanctioned a proposal for Forward Repair Team (Tracked) equipment, which is capable of performing in-situ repairs during mechanized operations. This equipment is designed and developed by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited and is authorized for use by both mechanized Infantry Battalion and Armoured Regiment.
