
IMD forecasts severe heatwave in Gujarat, Rajasthan; rainfall in others

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a severe heat wave over Gujarat and Southwest Rajasthan on March 12.
An orange alert has been issued for Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Botad, and Bhavnagar, while a red alert has been issued in Kutch, Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Porbandar, and Surat.
Subsequently, a heat wave is predicted over Vidarbha on March 13 and 14.
A heat wave is also predicted over Odisha during March 13-15, according to IMD's latest weather forecast.
Weather update
Rainfall and thunderstorms forecasted in northern states
On the other hand, IMD has predicted widespread rainfall and thunderstorms over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Himachal Pradesh from March 12 to March 16.
Punjab is likely to get isolated moderate rainfall during March 12-15.
Meanwhile, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are likely to see similar weather on March 13 and 15.
Cyclonic circulation
Cyclonic activities influencing weather patterns
The IMD has noted a western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over West Iran in the lower to upper tropospheric levels.
There is another cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas at lower tropospheric levels.
These circulations are affecting the ongoing weather across several parts of India, according to a statement by the IMD.
Northeastern weather
IMD warns of heavy rainfall in northeastern states
The IMD has also predicted isolated heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh between March 12 and March 17.
Assam and Meghalaya are likely to witness similar weather on March 13.
These predictions come as part of a broader forecast, which includes both heatwaves and thunderstorms across different parts of India.
With rising temperatures, IMD advises staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged sun exposure.
