IMD forecasts dense fog in northern India, showers in TN
Dense fog is very likely to prevail in several regions of northern Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather agency also predicted isolated to scattered light rainfall/snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad from February 13-16, and in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from February 15-16.
Why does this story matter?
Though late, mercury is gradually on the rise in northwestern India. Additionally, strong winds are likely to prevail over Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, IMD said in its bulletin. Earlier this week, air quality forecasting body Safar had said that high-speed winds will lead to an improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI).
What else did the IMD forecast?
From February 17 to 20, the Western Himalayan Region is very likely to receive scattered to fairly widespread light rainfall/snowfall, as well as light isolated to scattered rainfall over northwest India's plains. Due to a weak trough over the Comorin area and strong northeasterly winds persisting across coastal Tamil Nadu at lower tropospheric levels, southern parts of the state have been witnessing heavy rainfall.
'Thunderstorms likely to continue over south Tamil Nadu, Puducherry'
"Under their influence, isolated thunderstorms are very likely to continue over south Tamilnadu-Puducherry-Karaikal and south Kerala- Mahe accompanied with Heavy rainfall at isolated places over south Tamilnadu during next 24 hours," said IMD in a statement.
Weather in Delhi
On Saturday, the maximum temperature in Delhi was 23.4 degree Celsius with clear skies. The conditions are likely to be similar on Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 24 and 7 degree Celsius, respectively. During the next three days, the minimum temperature in most parts of northwest India is expected to gradually rise by 2-4 degree Celsius.
