IIT Roorkee announces JEE Advanced results: Details here
A short while ago, IIT Roorkee declared results for JEE Advanced exams 2019. The examination was conducted on May 27, 2019. Soon after the results were uploaded, the website- https://results.jeeadv.ac.in/ crashed owing to heavy traffic. Reportedly, Maharashtra's Kartikey Gupta has topped the examination. Only top 2,45,000 rank holders who cleared JEE Mains sat for the JEE Advanced exam. Here are the details.
A step-by-step guide on how to check results
Students can check their results by visiting jeeadv.ac.in. Once you enter the website, click on the result link. You will be then asked to enter the required information. Subsequently, the results will be displayed on the screen. According to reports, Kartikey scored 346 out of the total 372 marks. The second position was held by Himanshu Singh while Archit Bubna took the third spot.
Taking a look at how marks are calculated
The computer-based JEE Advanced examination constitutes two papers and was conducted in two shifts. The results were prepared after taking an aggregate of both papers, in all three subjects namely Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The rank list is prepared after taking the aggregate marks in paper 1 and paper 2 into account. The counseling and seat allocation happens on the basis of marks.
Here's what happens when two candidates score the same marks
If two candidates score same marks, the one who gets higher positive marks gets awarded the higher rank. In case this rule doesn't apply, the candidate who scores more marks in Mathematics gets the higher rank. If this also doesn't break the tie, the candidate who scores more marks in Physics gets the higher rank. If this doesn't work, both candidates get same rank.

Some other reputed institutes also use JEE Advanced ranks for admission. These include Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc), Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) located in Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Rae Bareli, Indian Institute of Petroleum & Energy, Visakhapatnam.
