IIT Kharagpur, Japan's AOTS collaborate to set up research center
IIT Kharagpur and Japan's Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS) have signed a MoU on Monday to explore opportunities for a research center that will facilitate collaborative projects. The proposed center will carry out joint academic and business activities, including events to promote education, internships, and employment for students. These activities will also be open to other engineering institutions for participation.
Partnership will focus on professional development of students: IIT-KGP Director
The activities will be spearheaded by IIT Kharagpur. The two organizations shall focus on "state-of-the-art joint certification courses in the domains of technology and management to be co-taught by faculty/experts in both countries, including visits to the host institutions," IIT Kharagpur Director P P Chakrabarti said. He added the partnership will have a strong focus towards the professional development of students.
'India has emerged as domain experts in IT, AI, data-science'
Japan is a global leader in domains such as urban science and infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, high-speed railways, semiconductors, while India has emerged as domain experts in information technology, data science, artificial intelligence, and the startup culture, said Chakrabarti, who assumed office on 27 July, 2013.
Collaborative projects will be according to India, Japan's work culture
Chakrabarti said the proposed center at IIT Kharagpur will facilitate collaborative projects and training modules in these areas in accordance with the work culture of India and Japan, which have their unique styles of management and leadership. Deputy Director of IIT Kharagpur S K Bhattacharyya said that maintenance and health monitoring of infrastructural facilities based on new technological developments are of paramount importance.
'Japan's expertise will be extremely beneficial in offering short courses'
"Japan's expertise in this area along with sensor technologies will be extremely beneficial in offering short courses jointly by IIT Kharagpur and Japanese organizations," Bhattacharyya said. AOTS was earlier called HIDA or Human Resources and Industry Development Association. The name underwent change from 2017.
