What's the story

A freshman at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Guwahati was found dead in his dormitory room on Wednesday evening. The deceased student, Saurabh Kumar, hailed from Mohanpur village in Bihar's Samastipur district and was enrolled in a B-Tech program. While preliminary investigations by local law enforcement suggest the possibility of suicide, his family alleged he was ragged and murdered.

They have also demanded a high-level probe into the matter. "It is a clear case of murder and now the authorities are trying to establish this as a suicide. He was ragged several times and he also informed the authorities but they did not pay attention," the deceased's father said. Meanwhile, Kumar's body was transported to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for an autopsy. "We will get a clear picture once we get the report," stated a police official.
