IIT-D alumnus, suffering from depression, commits suicide on campus
Anshum Gupta, a former student of Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, jumped from the seventh floor of a campus building on Friday. The police did not find any suicide note from the spot but it has been learnt that he was suffering from depression. Gupta passed his MTech in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT-D, eight years ago.
After staying in the States, Gupta returned home
From 2012 to 2015, Gupta was working at a renowned company in the US. He returned to India in 2015 and reportedly was battling depression since. He was getting treated at a Chittaranjan Park clinic. On the fateful day, Gupta informed his family that he was meeting a few friends at IIT-D. He later jumped from the IRD building. Doctors declared him brought dead.
Ten minutes after entering campus, Gupta took his life
The reason why Gupta visited his former college is still not clear. At around 10:40 am, he entered the campus, and ten minutes later he was seen jumping off the building by few students and security official. The police haven't found any eye-witnesses who spoke to Gupta before he took the step. After post-mortem at AIIMS' Trauma Centre, his body was handed over to the family.
Family says Gupta's death isn't related to IIT-D or academics
A member of Gupta's family said, "He was an IIT student but his death has nothing to do with the educational institute." He revealed Gupta always excelled in his studies but had been switching jobs quite frequently lately. He was unemployed for 5-6 months. Though police don't suspect any foul play, they will investigate CCTV footage for evidence.
