IIT-JEE Advanced to go online from next year
From next year, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced, the gateway to the prestigious IITs, will go completely online. Presently, the first-level exam, the Main, is held both online and offline. The Advanced is available online only in some centres. The move is aimed at ensuring greater transparency, reducing the probability of question paper leaks and easing and improving the evaluation process.
Not the only change coming in 2018
This is not the only change coming next year. Another proposal cleared by the Joint Admissions Board was scientific designing of the paper with questions ranging in difficulty from levels 1-10. Earlier, the JAB had decided to implement 14% reservation in seats for girl students from the 2018 session. The reservation will increase in a phased manner till 20% in 2026.
1.7 lakh students had appeared for the exam this year
This year, about 220,000 candidates who had cleared the JEE-Main had been shortlisted for the Advanced; of them, 1.7 lakh students appeared for it.
