Job gone, IIM graduate scams wealthy women on matrimonial sites
An Indian Institute of Management (IIM) graduate, identified as Rahul Chaturvedi, has been arrested for allegedly duping over 20 wealthy women through matrimonial websites. The suspect reportedly posed as a regional manager of a reputed company to lure unsuspecting women from financially well-off backgrounds into believing he was a genuine suitor. To make his profile appear credible, Chaturvedi created premium accounts and presented fake salary slips while promising marriage. According to TOI, he has been out of work since 2021.
Chaturvedi's elaborate scheme to deceive victims
According to Shakti Avasthi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central Noida, Chaturvedi went to great lengths to maintain his deception. He not only duped the women but also their families by impersonating his father during conversations with them. "Chaturvedi created premium accounts on matrimonial websites... He would present fake salary slips and promise marriage, establishing trust," Avasthi said.
Police investigation underway to identify other potential victims
Chaturvedi was eventually arrested by the Bisrakh police, who are now investigating his criminal activities. This case follows another similar incident in Delhi, where a man was arrested for duping over 50 women across several states using matrimonial sites, posing as a government official. During questioning, he disclosed that he used to target high-profile unmarried, widowed, and divorced women for marriage. He would then defraud them by demanding money in the name of booking a resort, wedding hall, or hotel.
