Just two classrooms and no library in IIM Bodh Gaya
A year after its launch, the Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya is still under the process of early development. It still operates from two classrooms in its transit campus in Magadh University. The institute is void of a library and laboratory both, having only a temporary tea lounge for its students and faculty. The IIM also does not have any permanent faculty.
Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya
The Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya (IIM-BG) is an autonomous business school in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India. Established on 31st August, 2015, it is India's 16th IIM. When the BJP Government came to power in 2014, IIM Bodh Gaya was announced in their 2014 Union Budget. Proposal for its campus was cleared by former HRD Minister Smriti Irani in January 2015.
The inauguration of IIM Bodh Gaya
On 31st August, 2015, the then Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani officially inaugurated the academic session of IIM Bodh Gaya. IIM Bodh Gaya's transit campus at Magadh University's (MU) directorate of distance education (DDE) building was also inaugurated. Approximately 20,000 square feet of space covering two floors of the DDE building have been kept for the IIM's temporary campus.
Mentor
A year after its inauguration, IIM Calcutta was designated as the mentor institution for IIM Bodh-Gaya. Professors from this mentor institute teach at the IIM as visiting faculty.
Other problems at the institution
Management of the university is either outsourced or maintained from a distance. The institute is set to have its full-time director sometime in its third year. The first batch received only 30 admissions in comparison with its approved number of 60 seats. The biggest concern of IIM Bodh Gaya is its credibility in offering placements to its students.
Summer placements 2016
In the 2016 summer placements, IIM Bodh Gaya placed second to last amongst six newly inaugurated IIMs-Visakhapatnam, Bodh Gaya, Simaur, Nagpur, Sambalpur and Amritsar- in acquiring internships for its students.
Hopeful improvements at the institution
IIM Bodh Gaya's public relations committee is hopeful of the improvements to come in the institution. According to reports, there are proposals to construct four new classrooms and a laboratory in the same building. The hostel is reported to have a power back-up and a stablizer. The state government of Bihar too pledged 180 acres for the purpose of constructing a permanent campus.
