ICSE- Classes 5 and 8 to face board exams
The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) will reportedly conduct board examinations for classes V and VIII from 2018. However, ICSE CEO Gerry Arathoon said there will be no pass-fail tags. He added the board examinations will be only a "periodical evaluation exercise to have an idea on the progress of the students' learning after a particular level."
ICSE board to provide questions for examinations
Arathoon said, "In the Class 5 and 8 board examinations, the answer papers of the students of one school will be evaluated by teachers of another school, as it happens in case of the final class 10 level examination."
New uniform syllabi effective from 2018
CEO Arathoon said the board decided to introduce three compulsory subjects: Sanskrit, Yoga, and performing arts. Yoga and performing arts will be compulsory for classes 1-8; Sanskrit will be taught in classes 5-8. Also from 2018, all ICSE-affiliated schools will have to follow uniform syllabus from nursery till class 10. The schools so far had the freedom to decide the syllabi for these classes.
