Gurugram accident: Victim's mother accuses police of inaction
What's the story
The mother of Akshat Garg, a 23-year-old biker who died in a head-on collision with a car driving on the wrong side of the road in Gurugram, has accused local police of not assisting them.
"I want justice for my son...My only question is why was he released on bail? My son is no more but he (accused) slept peacefully that night ... Why is the police not helping us?" she said.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police DLF Gurugram, Vikas Kaushik, said the accused did not have his driving license at the time of the accident.
"He (accused) presented all the papers but said...he did not have the license with him at that time but will present it soon...We considered that he did not have a license," Kaushik said.
He also mentioned that instructions have been given to add further sections under the Motor Vehicles Act to this case if required.

Victim's friend captures accident on GoPro
Pradyuman Kumar, a friend of Garg who was following him on another bike, captured the entire incident on his GoPro camera.
"My GoPro camera, fixed on my helmet, recorded the entire accident. But the police didn't take a copy of the footage, even after seeing it," Kumar said.
He claimed that police only contacted him for this footage three days after the accused, Kuldeep Thakur, was released on bail.

Accused didn't help Garg: Friend
Kumar also noted that Thakur did not exit his car to help Garg after the accident.
He alleged that Thakur only left the car once he and other bystanders intervened, and even made a phone call before being arrested.

Criticism
Eyewitness criticizes police response
According to the Times of India, Kumar, also said "The SUV also had a sticker of a BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party] candidate."
"They soon released Thakur on bail...probably due to his political connections," he said.
He added that there were two men in their mid-20s and a dog inside the car at the time of the accident.
